Calling Applications from Retired Health Staff to be Trained as Accreditation Surveyors

Applications are hereby invited from suitable candidates who are retired from government service to be selected, recruited and trained as accreditation surveyors for the Patient Safety and Accreditation Bureau.

Applications to be submitted to the Patient Safety and Accreditation Bureau in the prescribed format, only via email: dhqualitys@gmail.com. The application closing date is 15th May 2026.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Need to be available in person full-time to participate in the entire 5-day duration of the training to be held in Colombo, with active engagement in the training (please note that accommodation will be provided during the training period for those residing outside the Western Province).

  • Participate in any assessments/ assignments carried out following the training (if selected).

  • Following/prior to the training, shall be available in person, for participation in activities related to:

    • Development/customisation of standards for Sri Lanka, including piloting of standards in a hospital

    • Participation in person for gap analysis in relation to the standards, in a given hospital, as and when informed by the Patient Safety and Accreditation Bureau.

    • Supporting the local consultant for the preparation of a gap analysis report based on the gaps assessed in the given hospital

    • Conducting awareness workshops for the hospital staff, in collaboration with the PSAB. (The prospective surveyors will serve as resource persons)

  • Shall subsequently participate in activities related to the accreditation of healthcare institutions as a surveyor, as and when informed by the Patient Safety and Accreditation Bureau. This will require a willingness to travel throughout the country and to submit reports within 2 working days

Educational/ Professional Qualifications:

  • Retired Medical professionals (12)

    • Head of the institution/ deputy head of the institution/ Director/ Consultant/ Medical Officer

  • Retired Nursing Professionals (12)

    • Special Grade Nursing Officers/ Nursing Sisters/ Nursing Officers

  • Retired Medical Laboratory Technicians (3) ] Chief/ Special grade/ Superintendent

  • Retired Pharmacists (3) ] pharmacists or MLTs

Experience:

  • Should have retired from service in the Ministry of Health or a university within the last 10 years at the time of applying

  • Should have past experience in quality improvement and patient safety activities while working in the Ministry of Health

  • Should have continued engagement in patient safety and quality-related activities in healthcare settings after retirement, shall be considered an essential qualification.

Other requirements:

  • Maximum age – 73 years

  • Mental and Physical fitness for the outlined tasks

  • Possess good reading, writing and speaking skills in English

  • Satisfactory computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Office software

  • Good communication skills and maintaining good public relations with different healthcare categories in the respective hospitals are a must.

  • Willingness to enter into a bond with the Ministry of Health for a minimum of 2 years, to serve as an accreditation surveyor with the Patient Safety and Accreditation Bureau.

Selection of the candidates:

Candidates will be selected by an interview, and the decision of the interview panel will be final. Marks will be given based on the following criteria.

  • Engagement in Quality and Safety activities during and after Ministry of Health / University services (20)

  • Knowledge of concepts related to quality, patient safety and accreditation (20)

  • Skills related to accreditation assessment methodologies, demonstrated as per the given scenario (20)

  • Communication and English language skills (reading, writing and listening) demonstrated in a given scenario (30)

  • Publications and Scholarly work related to quality, patient safety and accreditation (10)
