Role Overview

At Panda, our operations keep the business moving safely, efficiently, and reliably. We are seeking a Bulk Transport Subcontract Manager to take ownership of our fleet performance, driver compliance, and subcontractor network across our Leeds sites.

Reporting to the Fleet General Manager, you will lead a fast-moving operation, ensuring that waste movements and off-take requirements are delivered cost-effectively and in full compliance with transport legislation. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a decisive professional capable of operating autonomously and making critical decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee the daily operation of approximately 20 vehicles, working closely with on-site planners to optimize service delivery and efficiency.

  • Subcontractor Management: Coordinate and manage third-party hauliers, ensuring they meet Panda’s rigorous standards for service, compliance, and cost-efficiency.

  • Logistics Coordination: Plan the movement of waste and off-take requirements across all Leeds sites, collaborating directly with site managers to ensure seamless transitions.

  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure 100% adherence to DVSA regulations, transport legislation, and drivers’ hours. Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, MOTs, and defect reporting.

  • Safety Culture: Promote a “safety first” environment, ensuring all policies, procedures, and safe systems of work are strictly followed.

  • Financial Control: Monitor and control fleet performance against budgeted targets, identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.

  • Dynamic Problem Solving: Act as the primary point of contact for operational challenges, prioritizing workloads and resolving issues in real-time to maintain service continuity.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Qualifications: Valid Manager CPC qualification.

  • Experience: Proven track record in a logistics, transport, or fleet operations environment.

  • Legislative Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of drivers’ hours regulations and DVSA compliance.

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of computerised planning systems and Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook and Excel).

  • Communication: An assertive and confident communicator with the ability to build strong relationships with drivers, planners, and site managers.

  • Attributes: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a high-pressure, fast-paced setting.

Desirable

  • Health & Safety: IOSH qualification or equivalent safety training.
